why wisp_
Wisp is an open-source app for messages, voice calls, camera and screen sharing. It exists to offer a private, customizable alternative to traditional community software, without feature subscriptions.
privacy
Messages and files are end-to-end encrypted on your device. Private keys stay with you, so the hosting server cannot read their content.
encryption details
Servers still process connection and delivery metadata. Wisp is under development and has not had an independent security audit. Chat encryption does not currently provide forward secrecy; voice and video use a separate shared client-held key. Keep your recovery keys safe to retain access to encrypted history.
no feature paywalls. ever.
Everyone gets the same features: no fixed text character limit, no application-imposed file-size cap, screen sharing up to 1440p / 60 fps, and camera video up to 1080p / 60 fps. Themes and customization are included.
Storage, server configuration, and available resources still apply. Streaming quality depends on your hardware and connection.
a customizable workspace
Split, move, and resize chats to keep multiple conversations in view. Choose interface styles, color palettes, and individual accents. The terminal-inspired design uses monospace type and quiet borders; low resource use is a design priority.
The system-tray popup lets you read and reply, set availability, and reach mute and deafen without opening the full window. Hiding the interface keeps an existing voice call connected.
[try the workspace →]open source and hosting
Wisp’s code is open under AGPLv3. Self-host on your own hardware or a provider you choose and use every feature free. Our planned turnkey hosting will offer a managed server for your group: you pay for hosting, never to unlock features.
